St Ives Lantern Parade
Saturday 1 December
Kindly sponsored by Cornish Gems & The Coffee Lounge
At 5.30pm, as darkness falls, the magical and mystical St Ives Lantern Parade takes to the streets dancing to the rhythm of Celtic Samba and their drums. Starting from Market Square and led by our very own Shanty Baba, the parade will head along Fore Street, then down the Slipway onto the Wharf before heading back up to Market Square, High Street and Tregenna Place before finishing in Royal Square for the official Christmas Lights Switch On (sponsored by SITA), the sign that Christmas is really on its way. This year, the Mayor will be joined for the switch-on by local Sam Harper Miller, who was nominated by the people of St Ives.
Don’t stand on the side lines: there will be Lantern-making Workshops on 11 and 18 November at the Island Centre from 11am to 4pm so that you and your family can all take part. These sessions are FREE thanks to generous donations by FEAST Cornwall and the local Rotary Club – all materials will be provided and there will be plenty of help on hand.
Please note that there will be road closures throughout the town on Saturday 1 December:
12-8pm Traffic-free shopping and street entertainment – Fore Street, Back Lane
5-8pm St Ives Lantern Parade and Christmas Lights Switch-on – Gabriel Street. Chapel Street. Tregenna Hill, Tregenna Place, High Street, Back Street, Market Place, Lifeboat Hill, Back Lane, Fore Street
