Glass Tree wins Shop Window Competition
Although Christmas is officially over, St Ives in December has been busy judging its popular competitions, which have been hotly contested around the town. The entries for the Shop Window Competition really impressed Mark Osterfield, Executive Director of Tate St Ives, but he awarded first prize to The Glass Tree on Fore Street (which also won the People’s Award). Mark commented, “The standard of their windows was exemplary and magical. But I have to say that there were many other really good windows from the stylish and contemporary to the traditional and the funny.” The runners-up for the Judge’s award were: Lilac and Lime (Tregenna Place) with “a beautiful window with a lot of Christmas cheer”; Shoreline Tattoo (Chapel Street) with “a humorous adult take on the perils of drink-driving and snowy conditions”; RAAR Emporium (Drill Hall) with “an innovative display of toys bursting out of their wrappings”.
